    EKI & II Imperial

I had the priveledge of traveling around Berlin this past weekend with Marcus H and during our travels we went into the German History Museum. They had on display the first EKs authorized in 1813 and the letter giving the authorization to make. On neither of the EKs is there a date or any other marks.

        Hello,

there are no date and oak leaves etc., simply because the plain iron face was the obverse (if we could open the showcase and look at the other side of the EK2, we would see the date etc.).

The 1813 EK1 had a plain iron core.

        Cheers,

        Elmar Lang

          Hmmmmmm...............

These look to be a bit later manufacture than the initial production.

I would love to see the reverse of both of these crosses. The EKI is a pinback. I wonder what the hinge looks like.

The paperwork may indeed have been a production order but later IMO.

              Hello,

Tony's right. We'd need to know what's written on the paper where the EK2 is mounted.

The pin of the EK1 is also strange to see.

Never forget the "adventures" of the DHM's collections...

              Sincerely,

              Enzo (Elmar Lang)

The paper was very difficult to read as the ink had faded quiet a bit, but you could make out the year (1813), plus with the EKII be affixed by a wax seal they were a diffenent pair.
