    Repaired EKII



    This is an Imperial EKII that was purchased for $20.00 US with the ring and eye ring missing. I had a friend repair it for $15.00 Cdn. He did a good job. Ethics say you must let the buyer (if I sell)know about the repair job. What would be a good price ? Or has it lost its value by repairing it. Should a collector repair or leave as is. What good is a EKII without the ring ? Opimions please

    That appears to be flawlessly done. The ring is the correct size... you did good. All that effort and precision I'd say qualifies as "museum restoration."

    A lot of times the original owner didn't do as well-- check out the EK2 on this Frackspange:

    There is a little silver "rail" along the entire top arm where his ring came off.

      Repaired EKII

      That is noticable. I guess it depends on the jeweler. My guy used cold solder. He said hot solder would probably damage the paint.
      I don't know if it will take any abuse or not. Thanks for the input

          Looks like you would be hard pressed to notice that from a wartime repair job.

            Apparently Rick's is a typical period repair. Her's an 1870 done the same way.

                Yup, near as I can tell it's silver. It wraps around the top. May have been a standard manufactured item from the smooth construction.

                  Reparing EK's

                  I LIKE THE IDEA OF REPAIRING THESE MEDALS BECAUSE THEY MAY DISAPPEAR WELDED ON TO A MUG OR SOMETHING. i'M GOING TO FIX AS MANY AS POSIBLE. IF CAN FIND THEM ON e/BAY IF THEY ARE CHEAP ENOUGH. I WILL NOT PAY INFLATED PRICES FOR THEM. THE REGRET IS THAT WE LOSE THE RING MAKER. THANKS FOR ALL YOUR INPUT.

                      Repaired Badges & Medals

                      I am interested in any repairs the members have made to their items in their collections. Repairs come in different and ingenious ways. I take great satifaction if I can put a crippled item back to life. I would appreciate any remarks and pictures of the repairs if possible. Any help with this subject would be really appreciated. Any catches , pins , metal bars, soldering, anything in the repair work. I can't stand Ek2 without eye rings etc. What good are they damaged, mount them on a silver mug. I mean basic little repairs that would qualify as a museum repair. Not to up the value of the piece, because surely honesty will be the virtue.
