    Small Grouping Question

    Hello,

I recently acquired this small grouping to a WW1 vet.
    Here is his EK1 documant.

      And the badges themselves.

Now the question. I understand that the wound badge was instituted AFTER the war, but this guy's EK1 was awarded in 1920, two years after the war's end. Was this common?

I am a police collector, so anything regarding military awards throws me.

      Regards,

        Hi Bill,

A quick scan of the reverse of the cross/badge would be good, just to complete the picture. Everything looks 100% original from what I can see, docs included.

WW1 Wound badges were instituted in 1918, before the end of the war, but they were still being awarded in the late 1930s!!

It's not uncommon for EK docs to show a post-war date - backlog and/or late/new recommendations would be explanations. I have heard that there were EKs awarded for Freikorps activities. A bigger scan of the writing on the EK doc and someone with advanced unti knowledge may be able to shed more light on this award though.

        Regards
        Mike

          Hi Bill,

it is okay with the EK I dated 1922.

The latest awards you can find 1924, but only for merit in WW I, not Freikorps.

For the wound badge, instituted march 1918, it is possible to find award documents from 1940/1941, for WW I

          Regards
          Uwe
