    Mecklenburg-Schwerin MVK 1 Question?

Have schwerin mvk 1 on its way from Germany - This is a vaulted piece, and that is part of the question.

Does anyone know if these were all vaulted, or were they like EK's in this regard?

And were there many 1957 pieces, and if so, can one tell
    the difference?

    Thanks,

    Phil

    Hi Phil,

there are vaulted and flat crosses. You can identify the 1957 version by its pinback. Have you got a pic of your cross?

Here is my old and vaulted example:

        Hi Phil,

Vaulted seem to be more common. All of my pre-45 examples are vaulted but my 57 example is flat. Do a search and you should find at least one thread showing different types of Meck-Schwerin MVK1s, including some images of my 57 example.

          Hello MajorPayne and Mike K

          Thank you Gentlemen!

While I have not received the MVK yet, do have
          the seller's pictures...

Just from the 'new' look, and the difference in
the pin, I am beginning to think that this may be
a 57er - hoping that it is not, as it would be a
sad time here. Oh well, fingers crossed!

          Finger kreuzten auf beiden Händen!

I shall begin a search, Mike K - and MajorPayne, medal bars are so nice!

          Thanks again,

Phil alzo- will post better pics when it arrives.

              Hi Phil,

I saw that one when it was on auction. I did not like the main pin, it looks wrong - way too fat (it does not appear to be a replacement either). It does not have a typical 57 hinge/pin catch assembly. It's either a Third Reich era piece (based on the typical 1939 type EK1 hinge, but the pin is not right) or a repro imo. Hopefully better pics and someone with more knowledge can indicate whether it's a repro or not

              Regards
              Mike K

Phil, I am pretty sure this is NOT a 57 example. Looks like one made during the 30s or 40s. But we need better pics.

Uh-oh, Phil, talk to Rick L about this one. He actually talked me out of bidding on it. I knew this was not a 1957er or a WW1 issue, I did think it was a 3rd Reich issue too, however if you look at the pin and reverse closer it is very similar to those Latvian-made pieces. That pin is wrong for any period.

                    Thanks to all

Boy oh boy do I feel dumb!
Will still post pics when the piece arrives.
This is a classic case of "I have to have it now"
Especially as I had some misgivings because of
the new look to the reverse -
Simple, really, where desire overcomes common
                    sense.

Oh well, if it does prove (and looks likely will) bad/Latvian
or even anything but WWI, I will need a replacement -
doing a shadow box with ribbon bar, EK1 and MVK 1 -
                    missing the MVK at present.

                    Vadim and all, Thank You!

                    Phil
