Possible MRV = Marine Ruder Verein (rowing boats association) ? IMO this item was for the 25 years membership anniversary....

The oin should be from the "Mainzer Ruder Verein 1878",

a club which is still working.

It appears that a pin was up in the fitting at the top and has either been clipped or broken off. There are no signs of ever having a catch at the bottom so I assume it was likely a stickpin. The ribbons at the bottom of the wreath have on the left 1896, and the right 1921.....so I assume it was a 25 year pin.
