    1914 EKII Docs

    Hi,

I've seen these two 1914 EKII docments on the web for £5 for both, do they look ok? I have no experience in WWI docs. Although I know £5 is a good price.

    Cheers

Assuming they are ORIGINALS and not fraudulently photo-copied "you're supposed to know from the price," you bet!

The reason I express doubt, weary scarred creature that I am, is that one of my Aussie buddies, years of time apart, got two IDENTICAL EK2 documents... to someone in something "exciting" like a wood-chopping economics company.

This was in Pre-Internet Days (he's still not Online, out there in South Oz), and the items were simply described in two different Aussie dealers' catalogs as "Iron Cross document."

    PHOTOGRAPHED copies.

My Very Last Purchase some years back from our own dear Back Streets Of Collecting was a "group of 7 documents." Wellll... there were only 6, and one of THOSE was ... you guessed it, a photographed COPY... but since the maroons didn't notice in four to the same officer a "black-white" NONcombatant EK2 document-- the only one I've ever seen (posted in the "three types of EKs" documents threads in our back pages, now), I didn't return the lot in outrage, 'cause I sure did "OK" after all.

But there ARE fakes out there. And if something seems Too Good To Be True....

I'd get "clarification" from the seller that those are NOT copies... because "2 fer £5" is about... a 1970 price.

And I am RATHER concerned at what appear to be "stamps" that are... black just like everything else. Bavarian stamps are usually BLUE or PURPLE, Prussian ones are often GREEN, or PURPLE. Not always, of course, but "everything's black".....

      Hi Rick,

I've just re-read the info on the auction site and they are aged copies. I should really read things more proberly, I would like to get a 1914 EK doc, I bet they can be quite good to collect due to the differences in the design of them.

      Cheers

Yup, quite reasonable and in fairly steady supply from dealers like Weitze. The real gorgeous ones tend to all be in the hands of the Evil Chris Boonzaier, who has singlehandedly plucked the brilliant colored "wallpaper" out of all of Germany.

Most of them look like dog licenses, if you go rummaging around the back pages here on a search.

Will post some new ones for you and anybody else interested to look at in a new thread.

          EK II doc

I picked this up recently. It was tucked sweetly away in the back of the Militair-Paß shown.

Looks like Wellner got his EK at almost the last moment!

Rick is right, the artsy ones are very...

"suitable for framing". Looks like Chris missed this one, probably because it is not an EK II award doc.

From Weitze. The "pendant" (I don't know why I insist on putting the pendants over my pictures) is a patriotic brooch that I thought fit nicely.

I bought it precisely because it was so pretty, but to ice the cake, my father-in-law was a machinist, too.

              Closeup of the doc.

              Notice: 1934, and no swastikas.

The two ones at the top are indeed copies, I saw them on german Ebay.
My dream EK award doc? one to a machine gunner awarded for the 1st day of the Somme.
It doesnt have to be nice and printed... even a typed one will do....
