    What unit?

    Hi guys,

I recently got a Prussian EM belt buckle that is unit marked. Here's the marking stamped on the bottom edge.

    5 G. R. 2 C. II

I can get as far as 5th Garde Regiment or 5th Grenadier Regiment. After that .

Anyone know what the rest means?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!

    Tony

Usually the company comes first, so I would read "5 G. R. 2 " as 5. Kompanie/Grenadier-Regiment König Friedrich Wilhelm IV (1. Pommersches) Nr. 2. The "C. II" part stumps me, though.

    There were two 5th Guards, by the way. 5. Garde-Regiment zu Fuß would have the "5" first, but would have an "F": 5. G.R. z.F. or 5. G.R.F. Garde-Grenadier-Regiment Nr. 5 would have the 5 last, and two Gs: G.Gren.R. 5, G.Gr.R. 5 or G.G.R. 5

I think that a clear photo of the marking might help. Is that possible?
