Does this engraving appear to be WWI script.

The obverse ... Pioneer Battalion 11 1916 Named to "Spate"

I would like to see the back without the pin in the way. At first glance, the script is certainly European style. The inside of the script does not appear to be scratched in recently. Would like to see the whole back if possible. Thanks, Steve

Leutnant d.R. Späte

I can confirm that an officer by then name of Späte served with Pionier-Bataillon Nr. 11. Vizefeldwebel der Reserve Späte (Landwehrbezirk Weimar) was commissioned as a Leutnant der Reserve in that battalion on 1 November 1914. He survived the war and was additionally the holder of the Knight's Cross 2nd Class of the House Order of Vigilance or the White Falcon.
