    A ........ to a Ehrenpokal.................. AAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH!!!!!!

The only "cleaning" I do to medals is to remove for example verdigris, rust or "Zinkpest" with a wooden (!) toothpick and apply some Ballistol oil to this area. After about 30 min I remove the oil with a cotton swab. But be very careful with the oil! Don't touch the ribbons with it!

I agree leave the medal bar as it is!. I have a medal bar that belonged to my good friend Edgar's father and the ribbon for the long service medal has faded to grey. I peaked underneath the edge of the ribbon and found it is still a bright cornflower blue, and was tempted to diassemble the bar and turn the ribbon over but fought the earge and left it alone. I've also been tempted to replace the round lond service medal for his long service cross but resisted it. He has the long service cross on a second medal bar with the wrong ribbon on it but the original medal for the ribbon has been lost over the years. I have also thought of getting the correct medal for the ribbon and remove the long service cross but I have left it as his father had it. From reading here on this forum best to leave things alone, The medal bars are a record of this man service. Here is a picture of the two medal bars.
