        Todd,
Clearer pictures would still be nice. The more I see of your cross
the more I like it. I think that this is a 1895 Jubilee made cross but
that is just my own feeling. Still a nice period 1870 EK2.
If you ever get the oppertunity to get some clear pictures of it
please post them or send them to me.( it would be nice to ba
        100% sure)

The ring looks to be marked. What is the mark?

Here is a match to the posted cross.
This one measures 43.6mm and weighs 21.0 grams.
The frame beading, date and crown are a match.

Does anyone have a clue what this mark might be?

                              Hi

Sorry I don't understand: what is the right way? Is it the right way:"the thicker "s" portion of the 8 seems to ride over the thinner portion that completes the 8"

                              Thank you

What is being discussed there is the shape and style of the "8" in
the 1870 date. Different makers used different styles of fonts in
the dates. Wagner and Godet used a flat 8. Other makers used an
over/under style of date. One of the primary reasons for looking at
the dates is that the FAKERS have a hard time getting the small
                                details correct.

One of the more common and better quality fakes is knowen as
the "9th bead" fake. This because of an obvious flaw in the crown.
ALL 9th bead fakes have a over/under style date. (not all over/under
dates are fake) So if the crown details are not obvious, looking at the dates is another indicater.

Here is a comparison of a flat "Wagner" date compared to the over/
under style of date on a 9th bead fake.
