Biro, you have a good eye. Yes this is indeed the Aurich/Friedhelm Cross. I was fortunate enough to have gotten it about fifteen years ago; and, referring to my comment above, this is the first time that I have posted any pictures or made any public acknowledgment of it and will probably be the only such for sometime to come. Welcome to the forum AND welcome to the HOLY GRAIL club.
That is a nice cross and interesting to see as it does not have
the stepped style core that is seen a lot on 1813s.

I am now the proud owner of Bill's 1813 EK2. I am just getting in to the collecting of EKs having been a German helmet collector for many years.

Greg, the core actually is stepped, but only on the obverse (this can be seen in my hi-res scans). The reverse core is not stepped which seems strange. However, I have read that these cores were constructed as two piece items so perhaps this cross exhibits traits prior to having the cores made in this manner?

Two piece cores are a trait on a few of the very earliest 1813 EKIIs. There would be evidence of a cental rivet that holds the two core halves together. This style of core is exttremely rare and also has the earliest multipiece frame as well.

Your cross doesn't appear to be one of these.

I believe you may be confusing the edge of the core that shows in a few places in your scans for the stepped core style. The stepped core is usually prominent on both sides.
