    Bavarian General to identify

Excuse me Rick, he has no ribbon bar.
However, maybe it's possible to identify him either.

    A bit closer:

There is the name written on the back, a bit hard to read though:

I think it reads General von ......... ???

    Any help very much appreciated.
    Thanks in advance
    Robert

I can't find a picture of him, but if the writing is correct, you really CAN read it, you just don't BELIEVE it... because that would be Ludwig Freiherr von

    TAUTPHOEUS

    Yup.

I just had the same problem with one of those Polish szczwcz names a few days ago.

    First pass:

    born 1860

    SekLt 24.5.83
    PremLt 13.6.92
    Hptm 17.3.97
    Major 18.11.06
    Oberstlt 4.5.10
    Oberst 23.1.13
    Generamajor 10.9.14

Commanding Bav Inf Rgt 11 when the war started, and until 19.2.15, when he took over Bavarian 11th Infantry Brigade.

Bavarian Military Merit Order 2 X with Star.

Back in a couple of minutes with more!

    OK-- second pass:

    born Reichenhall 28 January 1860.

    charakterisiert Generalleutnant aD, alive 1926.

    pre war medals=

Bav MMO 4, 1905 Jubilee, Bav XXIV (would have gotten XL later), Prussian Red Eagle 4, 1897 Centenary Medal, baden Zähringen Lion-Knight 2nd Class, Baden 1906 Wedding Jubilee Medal. He also had pre-war Austro-Hungarian Franz Joseph Order-Commander.

Apparently commanded the Bavarian 11th Infantry Brigade February 1915 to August 1918.

Bavarian Military Merit Order 2 with Xs 23.2.15 and Star with Xs 14.2.17

PS without a name and no awards to go by... you'd be amazed how many Generals look just like him-- and Emperor Hirohito!

      I have no words.

      You should make TV-shows, Rick.
We have a saturday evening show that's called:

Wetten daß ... ? I am sure You have something like that too, people make bets like ... I bet I can identify each bavarian general in just a minute ...

      Great, thank You.

        Tautphoeus

        Robert and Rick,

I found a portrait of the general in one of the "Schlachten des Weltkrieges" volumes (6). He commanded the 11th Bavarian Infantry Brigade from the 19th of February 1915 until the 8th of August 1918. He died on the 5th of October 1933.

        Regards
        Glenn

The name sounds a bit Greece! Might it be that his family came to Bavaria the time as Otto was King of Greece middle of the 19th century?

          Best regards

          Daniel
