A nice bar indeed ! And quite interesting !!

        OK here goes the ID

        1. 1914 EKII
        2. Mecklenburg Military Merit Cross, 2nd Class - For non-combatants
        3. Prussian Long Service - possibly 15 yrs
        4. DR Centenary 1897
        5. Kyffhauser Bund Medal (unofficial)
        6. German Honor Legion (unofficial)

The Mecklenburg one threw me off, the ribbon colors didn't match until I did some digging.

I hope that I am right on the above, otherwise

Very nice! The non-combatants ribbon on the MVK is very interesting. Together with the EKII on combatants-ribbon you have (maybe) the ultra rare EKII for non-combatants on the ribbon for war merits at home (only 6855 awards). This type of the EKII is much rarer than the non-combatants ribbon!

            Hallo MajorPayne......

            Sir, now I AM confused

(I am not very bright, but it takes me a long time
            to catch on.)

I am scratching my head very hard now...

I do not even know enough about this bar and the medals
            to ask an intelligent question!

            The Eisernes Kreuz 2. Kl. Non-Combatant?? ???

MVK Ribbon - Yes, I did see a difference to the
            combatant version of the ribbon.

Question?? = the MVK, was it used both for Mecklenburg-Schwerin AND Mecklenburg-Strelitz?

If I can also find out who lived in Schloss M-S ??

            Thank you very much,

            All the best from Phil

              Greetings Phil,

The two Grand Duchies shared the same house orders & merit orders - (Wendian Crown & Griffin Order) but not the MVK.

The Iron Cross II could be awarded on Combatant & Non-combatant ribbons (N.C. simply reversed the colors).

Because that was simply too easy - there were instances of non-combatant awards being made on the combatant ribbon as a special mark of distinction. I

n the case of your bar - the conjecture is - due to the non-combatant MVK - that the EK is non-combatant as well and therefore very rare... fun, huh?

                Thank you!

Beginning to understand some large points...
                Art vs. Science
and or the science of art...

In this bar what I now see is a "PX Warrior" -
as it has two Veterans Organizations to the right,
a non-combatant MVK - would not this have been
ordered after the war, and the direction of the
holder to the shop have included "Use a combatant
ribbon" for the EK 2. Kl. ??? Thus enhancing the
                ensemble for maximum effect?

Darn, this stuff is FUN FUN!!!!!

                Felipe

                  Hi Phil,

really a nice career NCO´s bar!

It is definetly from the 20ies as all this veterans stuff appeared.
I do NOT believe that this guy just like that ordered the ribbon in a shop. This thing were always handled carefully. It is simply possible that for prussian relations he was close enough to the front to get the combattants ribbon and Mecklenburg considered that he earned the non-com ribbon.

                  Best regards

                  Daniel

                    Hallo Spiess,

Thank you very much - I now with your help begin to shift
opinion - though it would be interesting to have this EK 2.
be non-combatant, it seems to me that with a rigid society
and natural pride, a career soldier most likely would not
just 'order' what he liked. Also, would seem that it would
not be a 'simple mistake' to place the wrong ribbon on an
Eisernes Kreuz, especially on a ribbon bar that would be
                    worn for some time.....

Absolutely fascinating and exciting hobby you gentlemen
have!! Wish that the 'bug' had bitten me in the early 1960's
when I was in Rhein Kaserne, Wiesbaden-Biebrich!!

                    All the best,

                    Philipp

Hallo again MajorPayne! Also Thank you Spiess!

                              Gute,
But now only my collection is so small...
now because of this I focus on the hunt...

                              Thanks to you also,
                              now I see combatant/non-combatant is
                              not always easy to see...

and from McSwiggen and Mr. Rick L.,
                              Spiess, David S and yourself:
I slowly begin to understand the value in
                              having good reference materials...

I send best wishes to you all for success
in the hunt, and for many enjoyable hours!

                              Phillip

                              fingers crossed!)
