Several of you have provided me with information that has been new information about a father and his life which brought a lot of joy to the daughter. That you can still find out about a father 50+ years after his death has brought quite a bit of happiness to her (and of course me).

Well, I definitely have to agree. Rick L is the Master of All Imperial. Every time I ask him a question, I get a clear, fast and to-the-point answer. I blame him personally for having a lot more Imperial items in my collection.
His tremendous knowledge in this area is only equalled by his good looks and charming disposition.

Rick has been most generous and patient with so many of us – especially me. I’ve watched for years – first answering my questions and then answering the same questions again for others. Very admirable!

I’d like to make a modest proposal – could we start a sticky post that shows a prioritized list of reference books for new enthusiasts? Might include links, if permission is granted by owners, to Dave Danner’s site and Andreas Schulze-Ising’s site as well.

I’ve been unsuccessful in trying to get Rick to work up an English Language primer - cataloging of awards by state with rudimentary information on permutations and identification. Not for the purpose of authentication – just as a start point for the new guys – conceptually a “cigarette album” with verbiage (general precedence, type of award and reasons, grades, foundation dates). Such a reference would seem to be a boon to “new guys”. Would love to see such a limited scope reference available either on line or in print… Have been trying, on & off to do this myself for personal use but time and lack of images have been major stoppers to date.

I think thats an excellent idea. I dont know if there are that many though, Imperial German awards is a very under-served field. I have Purves' and Dorling's books, both are pretty good, and I have that pretty one by Ball and Peters, very nice to look at but not too useful as a reference. There must be others out there.
Maybe we should start another thread on this though, as this Ricky's thread.

What worries me is that the man himself has not responded so far. Is he OK???

I've noted that Rick leaves his computer for hours at a time!

Nimmergut catalogues (not the $1000 stuff) are a neat start point (Rick pointed those out to me long ago).

Kleitmann (sp?) provides a nice overview as well for WWI - unfortunately, I'm not home & can't remember the exact title.

Peter's & Ball is shakey - loads of errors and organization leaves much to be desired.

I don't know how to do a sticky thread if that's even possible for us mortals. Will try to get Rick to do that tonight perhaps.

Actually, if there is ONE thing that the Internet has been good for, it is the INSTANT, GLOBAL network of people whose knowledge can be SHARED, sparing the old long, hopeless years of just never finding THAT bit or piece of information.

Perhaps even MORE important than WHAT you know... is knowing WHO to go to for the answer to any specific question.

My brain is no bigger than it was before I finally went online in 2001--- but the growth in CONNECTIONS--- ALL FROM HERE-- that has sprung up since has meant an exponential increase in SHARED knowledge and experience.

But I WILL start a simple List Of Books, in no particular order, that make up a useful Imperial reference library. I have to go start it in my secret moderator spot, because my actual "live" typing skills are not up to public display.
