Great discussion here folks. I too noticed the differences between the pins (tapering)on the side by side. Other than that I cannot see clearly enough to make a distinction between the 2 crosses. Does the cypher appear larger on the E-bay piece to anyone else? I will surely pass on this one and if anyone has one they would like to sell, please PM me.

Like I said, I wanted to play devil's advocate a bit to spur discussion. Too many times we will just make statements that we don't like a piece but not educate as to why.

My own concerns with the piece:

      * The 'block' holding the pin is thicker and seems similar to many fakes but who knows. Also, while the straight pin is about right, it is shorter, like many many fakes of late. Most KOs I have seen have the extended pin.

      * The KO lettering. Not only does it appear to have 'flange' around it, but it appears to have Roman style letters rather than letters without the 'curly' ends.

      * The core 'W' is much wider on the good KO. It covers more of the center of the cross.

      * The silver frames appear different altogether on inpsection.

I think Greg and Steve's points are probably best on this piece. With KOs so common and many fine examples of good ones out there, why risk it? That is probably the best advice of all.

Thanks for letting me spur discussion. I wanted to make the point that we should express why we believe something is good or bad to educate on this forum. Are we wrong many times? Sure, but we end up smarter as a result of the collective knowledge of our members. Steve

Here's some pictures of my KO that I took today. I'm pretty sure this one is good. Maybe you can compare it.

Here's the rear. Note how the pin extends as described in another post.

Beautiful cross Steve . I am definitely passing on the ebay piece and have learned quite a bit from this thread. While there are similarities between the 2 crosses as was said earlier, there are too many question marks to bother. Instead, I purchased 2 1939 EK1's from e-stand. That makes 4 so the next one I get will be an Imperial.

                  Thanks guys

Nice KO Steve. Now that one has everything any collector would wish. Steve

Thanks, it is a nice honest example. I've only been collecting for a short time but I've learned that it pays to find out as much as you can and be patient. In most cases you shouldn't just jump at the first thing you see. Other items will make themselves available. After you learn more you will be able to grab up good bargains and hard to find items, but to do it blindly will end up costing you. I like to stick to the estand for the most part, but even then you should be aware of what you're buying.
