    Ekii 1870

Hello all, I have found this EKII from 1870 in a lot, but this is not my field of collection, so probably I'm going to sell it, but before that I would like to be sure that it is 100% original and the market price of it.

Thanks in advance for your help.

            It looks good to me.
I paid 375 euro for mine (but in slightly better condition).
And I know that you can buy that spange for some 25 euro.

So, it would say, 400 euro is a maximum.

A good price would be 350 euro. (imho off course )

Your cross appears to be good but I believe it has been repaired
at some point in time. It is believed that the "short 7" date is
attributed to Godet. The frame of your cross looks consistant
with a Godet frame. The ribbon ring appears to be marked KAG.
KAG is not a known producer of 1870 EKs. It looks like (IMO)
that the ribbon ring and small ring on the cross have been replaced.
NOTE the soldering where th small ring is attached to the frame.
Perhaps the cross was damaged OR a maker marked ring was added
in an attempt to up grade the value of the piece.

I read marked 1870's were made sometime around 1900, but still very desirable. Good IMO, unsure if period or not. Charlie

There are examples of maker marked 1870s. But in this case we seem
to have a KAG ring on a Godet cross.

I have to pretty much agree with Greg's accessment here. The EK itself is fine and looks to have the attributes of a Godet EKII. If you do a careful search on the forum you will find several examples of Godet 1870 EK's.

IMO the small ring and the ribbon loop have been replaced. The small ring has been soft soldered as evidenced by the grey color of the solder instead of hard soldered. Hard solder would be a silver bearing solder being much stronger and noticably lighter in color.

Sorry, but KAG is not the maker of this obviously Godet cross.

                        Hello,
there are some "profis" which take an original silver frame of an EK II of 1914 and bring it together with a fake of the iron middle part! This can be such a fake.

Greg and Tony have it right IMO...

Replaced ring, genuine cross - we are not sure, but we surmise probably by Godet for reasons you will understand if you do a search on these - and a good buy at anything under 400 euro.

It is NOT a "bring it together with a fake of the iron middle part..."
