Just got this today. Core detail is not great but some aren't. I'm wondering about the outer frame. It looks strange like someone repainted it with grey paint. What does everyone think? It's marked A on the ring. Thanks, Steve

Is the core magnetic? Zinc?

I'm not sure. I'm in my hometown here and the cross is 3 hours away where I work. I'm more concrned about the frame. I'll check when I get back there. Does it match an A marked cross?

I think that is a repainted core. Maybe they also varnished the frame

I was wondering about the core myself a bit but was more concerned about the frame. What makes you believe the core has been repainted? Has the repaint obscured the detail of the core? the marks at the top of the core. I need a few opinions on this one. The core is loose in the frame also. In the 3rd picture you can see an uneven line going across the beading. What gives?

It does look as though it may have been repainted. The core paint looks a little too glossy. Perhaps the frame also had a paint job, or has been chemically cleaned up to remove traces of rust.

Here are better scans of the cross. I can******180;t see any paint on the frame and i see no signs for a repainting.
