    Godet 1870 1st class Help!!!!

    Hi All
I have found this cross now I have done a bit of research on this one
the only thing i see wrong here is the pins are to fat normally they are thinner but as yet I am no guru so appreciate your thoughts on this

Unfortunately, IMHO this is not original. The pins are indeed much too large, but also the makers mark is a poor imitation of an original Godet mark from the period. The core details are different from 1870-era Godets and in general the style of manufacture is more like 1914 crosses.

I don't care much for the case, either, as it has no catch and the glue seems to be pretty fresh underneath the pad. I also don't see why anyone would use a silver stamp on a white satin lining - not even someone making a reproduction case. It's very odd.

The maker's mark seems sloppy and poorly done.

Here's yet another example of what looks to me like a perfectly ok case...with a newly remodeled insert to fit a customized postwar cross. Patina looks very weird too.

This piece would appear to be aged using chemicals rather than a naturally aged process over 100+ years.

The core is always a giveaway with these.
