    Gift EK2

    EK2
    <O></O>
    Greetings,
I hope you will share opinions on this EK2. It weighs 11.6 grams. It is magnetic and multi piece construction as evidenced by the slightly open edge. There seems to be paint on the beadwork. There is no maker’s mark. The ring is soldered, but the loop is soldered to the cross on one end only.
    Thank you for looking,
    Chris

        Chris,
I would have to see it in hand to be sure but in my opinion
this looks like a new, cheaply made reproduction.--SORRY

IMHO this is a poor fake. The paint looks like it was done yesterday, not pre-1939.

            Hello

I'm sorry, but I agree with the other comments. This is not a genuine WW1 EK2. The materials it appears to be made of, and the quality of it's construction are more like the late 1980s versions of the 57 re-issue pieces.

If you have return rights on it I'd send it straight back. WW1 EK2's are fairly cheap and easy to come by. Look for a good original one.

            Regards
            David

              Thank you

              Hello,
Thank you for your help. I guess that is why you guys get the big bucks. Oops, I forgot... we do this for free.

              Best Regards,
              Chris

I agree with DavidM - this is definately a later version of the 1957 pieces. It is cheaply made and resembles the late 1957 RKs seen on the market.

Keep your eyes on e-stand. They are offered there for sale quite often. If not, do a search on e-bay for WW1 Iron Cross. There are a ton offered there all the time. But be careful, if you don't know what the real ones look like, there are a ton of modern repros offered there as well.

                    Hmm, I´m not your opinion!!!
It looks like a rare cross with sheet metal core(s) (two separate cores)!

I have a similar rare cross with a zinc frame in my collection.
The 4 in 1914 is closed, and the back, especially the 1813 looks terrible!

IMO these crosses were made between 1918 and 1933.

                    Greetings
                    Solomon

                      Hello Solomon,
                      Interesting you say that.
The core is two pieces of metal. A top and a bottom. When looking through the small opening on the side, I could see between them! I would have mentioned it, but I did not think it was that unusual. I used to have an authentic stamped core Zimmerman cross (see posts "EK1, Vaulted, Hollow").
I did think the weight was odd at 11.6 grams. It is lighter than my WW2 EK2.
                      Thanks.

Does it really even have a separate core, or is it just a front and back piece fastened together?

                          Chris, what does it cost?

Yes, it has...its weight is 11,6 Gramm and it has also a crack (at its top), where
you can clearly see that two seperated cores exist.

                            I would buy it...

                              Hello,
Definitely 4 pieces. Both top and bottom core piece moved separately within the frame.
                              Regards,
