New arrivals #1 - Mecklenburg

I had a good weekend a few weeks ago with Detlev and eBay, and almost everything has finally arrived.

So, to start, here is an Honor Cross (Ehrenkreuz), also called the pinback Officer's Cross (Offizier-Steckkreuz) of the Order of the Griffin (Greifen-Orden) of the Grand Duchy of Mecklenburg-Schwerin. This one came from Detlev and is cased, but lacking a digital camera I can't post good images of cases. Sorry Stogie! Actually, this cross is so thick and vaulted that it doesn't scan as well as a flatter medal would, although it came out fairly well in these scans.

I still wake up kicking myself for passing on one of these at $100 in the early 1980s.

Dave-- is that a double line of maker's name etc on the center reverse or a tarnish smudgy?

It's maker marked on the reverse. I can't remember the maker off the top of my head - I will check when I get home - but it was the Hofjuwelier in Schwerin.
