    Silesian Eagle Question

    Hello All,

The Silesian Eagle came in 2 classes... this much I know.... BUT... was it worn like the EK or the KVK where the second class was worn with the first class or once the 1st class Silesian Eagle was awarded, the wearer did not wear the second class ???

    Cheers

    Hi Mark,
I was under the impression that there was only one class, with a ribbon. The vets did not like it on a ribbon and had them converted. Then some of the medal companies started making them as pin back. Am I wrong?

This badge was awarded in two grades. With ribbon as "Stufe 2" and as pinback as "Stufe 1".
You got Stufe 2 after three months and Stufe 1 after six months of service in the border guard in silesia. Both grades could be worn together.

You're thinking of the Baltic Cross, Terry.

Here's a medal bar with the Silesian Eagle second class. There were a lot more in older threads that are still there if you search "Silesian Eagle" on this Forum.

          Hi Rick,
Your correct again, that is what I was thinking about. Boy years of studies and thousands in reference books and what do I do.Ich bleib im bett!

            Ok all,

I'm still not sure what the final answer was to the original question....

What was 'regulation'... in regards to the wear...

To me it would seem pointless to wear the 2nd class once the first class was awarded....... since they only delt with time in service and no merit !!

            Cheers

My "Hessenthal" says nothing that only the highest "grade" could be worn.
Here is another medal-bar with this beautiful award. Rick, your SE looks exactly like mine. The one-piece laquered construction.

Mark: well, that's just what they did. Both were worn together. I suppose they were stretching with these and going for an analogy with Iron Cross type "decorations," when these were indeed actually only a campaign medal. Rick
