    Wilhelm-Ernst Kriegskreuz

    Dear imperialites,

The famous auction house "Hermann Historica" in Munich will be offering in his next catalogue the above-mentioned order. I never saw an original before, but because of its quality I think that it could be a late post WWI (1930's) piece. It's marked (Meybauer) and has a typical pin for such maker. Weren't the crosses awarded during the war marked with the date of bestowal on the back? Could this cross be described as "Zweitanfertigung" for a lost one (replacement?

I already requested the picture of the reverse... your comments are most appreciated!

    Ciao,

    Claudio

      Christian,

For sure it's a nice order, but this particular piece doesn't seem to feature all the caracteristics of a piece produced during the war years. I saw some pictures of the back of this cross, where you can see the details of the swords, instead of being flat like this particular one.

      What do you think?

I enclose some pictures taken from "Nimmergut's Handbücher"....

      Ciao,

      Claudio

        Hi Claudio,

it's one of the nicest crosses of the imperial time. Here a little group of a wearer of the Wilhelm-Ernst cross.

          Hi Claudio.

I had one long before scanners and digital cameras, so I cannot post a pic to compare.

          Werner,

Nice grouping. Do You have a name to put on it?

          Best regards

          Daniel

            Werner,

As usual I am speachless... I could have bet that you would have had such a cross in your collection... How does yours look like on the reverse? Does it have a date and maker's mark? Are the swords on the reverse flat like the one offered by HH?

            Daniel,

What did happen to your cross? Don't tell me that you sold it!

            Ciao,

            Claudio
