Imperial visor ????, please help identify

Gentlemen, what in blazes did I just buy for $23? The seller was not sure what it was, he said it was possibly for Garde Schützen Regiment.
If anyone has any information on this, it would be much appreciated. Thanks!

A couple of units wore these colors:

Garde Schützen
Sachsen Jager Bn 12,13
Sachsen Schutzen Rgt 108.

Your's has a Prussian Kokarde, so..........

What is a little unusual, is that your cap has the nice large visor usually only seen post 1900, but only one Kokarde (pre 1897).

and that could be why...? It is possible that one Kokarde is missing, but it does not look like that in the picture (I'll be sure when I get the cap)
What is an appoximate value of this cap? Its gotta be at least worth $23 I paid...

It doesn't seem to be a Schützen-Regiment 108, because those use black velvet (I've bought one of those caps once)...

Its actually a combination of rank and the desired quality, not the unit. Mannschaften were only allowed to wear visor caps with black wool bands, while officers could wear black wool bands or black velvet bands depending on how much he wanted to
spend from the tailor. For example, below are links to two of my visors, both basically identical officer visor caps, both for Artillerie, Pioniere or Verkehrstruppen. One has a black wool band, the other has black velvet. Tony

Any thoughts as to why mine would have a longer visor but only one Kokarde? Also, any input on the approximate value for mine?

It might be best to wait until the cap arrives? With that visor, I suspect that the upper Kokarde is missing, but reichs Kokarde are common and easy to find. As for value, I prefer not to make opinions on that, but I will say that the moth damage affects the value considerably, but you bought the entire cap for the same price I would pay for postage just to get a hat up here. I have seen people pay more for just the Kokarde than you paid for the cap..............

Yup, $30 total with shipping from Switzerland. And you are right, I paid that much just to ship visors from Europe...
Also, mothing is on piping only, the hat itself is fine. So all in all, not bad.
