    Unknown Dagger Opinions Please!

    Gentlemen,
I had posted this in the Wehrmacht section, and was suggested I put it here. I just picked this up and not being a dagger person have no idea what this might be. Can anyone give me info on what it is, is it original and also value. I do not believe the scabbard is the correct one for this but it came with the dagger. Thankyou.

It is a Royal Yugoslavian Air Force Dager. I know people around here aren't fond of this man, but you can find one for sale here. Second item in the list.

That may be. But this also begs a bigger question.

The 'over the shoulder squirrel' trademark on the blade was used by Carl Eickhorn from 1942 and later. How would have the Royal Yugoslavian Airforce still been ordering daggers when at that time the country was occupied by Germany?

                  This doesn't make any sense.

Another question regarding the example shown on the said dealers web site.

Why would an airforce dagger have a blade etched with German naval motiffs such as a fouled anchor?

Very curious. Please don't tell me 'Flying boats'!

I think that they have to be assembled post war, then. Perhaps the TR daggers were stripped of offensive symbols and spare Royal Yugoslavian parts were attached? That way you can account for a post '42 Eichorn blade and a Navy blade.

This could have been either done by an entrepreneur when TR daggers were cheap as dirt, or by the Air Force of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia which probably wasn’t exactly wealthy right after WWII.

The only other option that I can think of is that they were made recently, but in that case it would be so cost prohibitive to use a nice etched Navy blade that I can’t see how it would make sense…
