Hindenburg Honor Cross questions.

Hi guys,

I have some questions that someone here might be able to help me with.

The Hindenburg crosses were struck in both bronze and plated iron variations.

Is there a value difference between the two and is one or the other more difficult to find?

I can't really speak to the relative rarity of the different versions, but I'd imagine that any price differential between the two would be minimal as they're such commonplace decorations.

Hi Tony,
Actually one version is worth a lot more. I think the solid bronze versions are worth up to $100 or more (or at least that is what some are asking) as compared to the more common iron type.

So check your medal bars.

I can't help with price differentials, but I definitely agree that bronze (non-Iron) examples are a lot less common.

I have one on my Zahringer medal bar. At least I think it is bronze, I can say this, it is not magnetic compared to the other Hindenburg crosses I have on other medal bars.

It looks like a typical cross, but it is not hallmarked. Give yours a magnet test.

They are very rare and a little gem when they pop up (frankly I find that award rather boring and dull). I have a friend who bought a simple medal bar of just a 1914 EK and Hindenburg Cross (a bar we have all seen a 100 times) just because the Hindenburg Cross was a bronze one.

So check them at the next show you go to.

Thanks for all the replies! I was curious about this since the MAX show when someone had mentioned this in passing conversation. Afterwards it picqued my interest and I though I'd ask here.
