I wish to buy this piece but need some second opinions
it looks like the real deal ?

and what would be a fair price for one of these ?

That is a Meybauer cross but I'm not sure the engraving is authentic to the period. A good cross will go from $180-250 for a pinback and up to $350 for a run of the mill screwback. This one is missing the backing plate too I believe.

One of the first things that got my attention is the deep tarnish in the Meybauer logo and 900 mark, and the lack of it in the other engravings.

I would agree that the cross itself is a good original, vaulted, or convexed piece. The additional engraving is always going to arouse suspicion, and as Scott correctly points out, the patina in the '900' and the manunfacturers logo is much deeper and consitant with the age of the piece compared to the other markings.

Without the backing plate, and disregarding the additional engravings, in the UK I would expect to pay between about £180 - £230 GBP.
