    Saxon medal bar

Dear forumites (especially for the two Ricks),

Herewith I am posting a pic of a Saxon medal bar offered by a German dealer. The composition of the medal look possible (post Anschluss type, Austrian MVK before Frontkämpfer-EZ). The peace time awarded orders are correctly placed after the Frontkämpfer-EZ. I am correct to say that this guy could have been a Saxon officer (Hauptmann at least), because of the Albrechts-Orden 1st class? Although this combination is not very exotic, maybe there are some slight chances to research on it? What do you think?

I am eagerly awaiting your most interesting comments.

    Ciao,

There is SOME chance-- but since this guy wasn't a native Saxon, it would take hunting through ALL the Prussian and navy lists. The Prussian/navy XXV with no 1897 indicates a 1920 award with double-credit war time.

A Red Eagle for an army officer with post 1897 seniority is rather unusual, and more typical for the navy-- would need to know what the BACKING material is for an extra clue.

This guy certainly went out in 1920 as a Major.

      Reverse of the Bar

      Rick,

Here is the back... it is difficult to tell the color... it's very dark. It could be either dark green, blue or black...

      Ciao,

      Claudio

Shouldn't be the KVKII39 before the Hindenburg Cross?

There is nothing wrong with this bar except for the silly little wreath on the Austro-Hungarian MMC.

I'm going to check the (easy) navy... I'll get back to you by PM if I find the original owner there, Claudio.

Thanks Rick! I noticed the swords device on the Austrian MVKl, too. Ugly or maybe not usual, but possible... As I said the order of the medals seems to me completely ok, as also the ribbons are folded...

                Ciao,

                Claudio

                  Nothing silly about that wreath!

I've seen it before. The Austrian "War Decoration" for this cross was just a tad too subtle for some soldats!
The second class (Neck) cross has the same problem. Unless you get a repeat on the cross w. KD, then you would wear one with an enameled green wreath, instead of the plain gold one.

I meant shouldn't be the FKK BEHIND the Hindenburg?

                      detailed pic

                      Hi guys!

Here's a detailed picture of the sword's device on the ribbon of the Austrian MVK...

Jens, I still don't understand your question: FKK (Frontkämpfer-Kreuz?) behind Hindenburg (alias FKK)?

The Austrian MVK is correctly placed before the FKK, since after Anschluss Imperial Austrian war decoration were considered "German". This bar was obviously put together after 1939, since there's also a KVK 2. Kl. mit X.

                      Ciao,

                      Claudio

Claudio, at the moment I think I am drunken

I meant, shouldn't be the KVKII 1939 BEHIND the Frontkämpfer?
I think I've got it now...

                          Jens,

That's completely ok... According to the regulations (see http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/ribb...egulations.htm) the KVK 2. Kl. had always to be placed immediately after the EK (WWI or WWII). The only doubt I have actually is about the Imperial DA f. Offz. 1. Kl. (25 Jahre): I would have placed before the two peace time awarded German orders (RAO 4. Kl., ZL 2. Kl.).

                          Ciao,

                          Claudio
