    Cased PLM on Ebay

Have you guys scene this on ebay?

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...tem=2164610525

The auction started today with a "Buy It Now" option of about $2,895 (I can't remember the exact price). Since then someone bid on it, eliminating the BIN price. If this is the real deal ( I have NO idea if it is) that would probably be a pretty good price, huh?

I also noticed the cased 1914 EK1 he has - with a BIN price of $325. At first it looks like a nice set marked WS, but I can't really judge it because he doesn't show the complete reverse. And, I REALLY don't like the stamped maker mark. I have a Wagner marked EK1 and the mark is engraved, not stamped!!

Check out some of the other stuff he has. It looks really nice but I can't really be sure. That Wagner EK1 really makes me nervous.

It seems too good to be true! And it probably is!

PLM's fetch a significantly higher price. A real one would have been a steal at $2895.

      Walk away from this one.

I cannot pass comment on the PLM could be one of the 1970’s coffin case type StogieRick was talking about a few weeks ago. However the WS marked EK appears to be original to me. From my knowledge most of the pilot’s badges he is selling appear to be sinkers. I am pretty sure this is the seller who has been listing engraved Imperial Flight badges on ebay for years, all very suspicious.

It's all about gambling... cheap but no money back guarantee.

          Just like investing in .com

            No, No, No!

Looks like the typical Rothe re-do to me. Wouldn't touch his badges. Every one is bogus, but enhanced with "reall" "period" engraving. Actually $1000 for this cross is OK, as long as you know and understand that it's a reproduction.

the case looks austrian - very similar to the one offered at the 100. kube auction

and to me as newby - please say a bit more why you'll we shure that this is a fake.

              regards christian

Yeah, I wouldn't mind hearing more about what's wrong with it for educational reasons etc. But I can't see spending $1000 for more or less a filler, albeit a nice one. Considering the cost of a genuine piece some with the money might very well buy, but the risk of depreciation is likely to be greater for a copy than for any other piece, whatever it might be, that is genuine. Yeah I know, someone that would buy isn't worried about that to begin with.

                  Rothe PLM's

Okay, boys & goils, here we go:
1970's, Rothe-Wein, Austria, used their original dies for the PLM (Yes, once upon a time, they made them pre-1918) and made a quantity of PLM's. They're very high quality, but not close to pre-1918 with respects to color, finish and lettering. They just could not duplicate the quality of material and workmanship from 70 years before.
The crosses were made and hallmarked J.G.u.S., and .925 for silver. Interesting that the chose a legit maker (Godet) and applied their hallmark to the Rothe pieces.
However, the real clue is that all of these crosses were issued/sold in the black, Austrian-style coffin case.
Now, as copies go, this run of crosses was the best ever done and are quite collectable in their own right. legitimate price for these pieces would be $1000-1500 USD.
Quality vastly surpasses even the Steinhauer & Luck copies made currently.
Nice piece, very beuatiful, but still a copy!

                    Re: Kube's piece

I would advise extreme caution regarding the engraved piece in Kube's auction. This is the second one (or perhaps the same one in a different auction). There is no documentation that exists that these bizarre, solid back/engraved crosses are real.
Kind of like the US auction that recently sold "Richtoffen's Pilot Badge"

Now, if you guys are buying these kind of stories, please PM me. I can give you a great deal on some ocean-front development property in Utah.

Here for some permanent reference value is the seller's closeup of the "pour le Merite."

The "plucked rooster tail" is characteristic of Rothe pieces.

I don't think I'd pay 1,000 for a copy... I like the chips and nicks though. Nice antiqueing.

So if I dip my fakes in acid and other chemicals to age them will you guys buy them???
