    The figure of 1 million killed at Verdun is not correct, IIRC there were about 600,000 casualties, that's killed, wounded, prisoner and missing.

        Brought up due some new statistics.


        Casualties of Verdun (killed):

        Germany: about 337000 (about 100000)
        France: 377321 (162308)

        Makes 714 231 (262 308).

          WWII Germans and French killed in the area both in the initial attack by the Germans in WWII.

          Later, Germans, Americans and British killed in the area, 1944.

          Probably not very large numbers but significant.

          That's still a lot of ghosts... Camping there as a kid was a bit heavy.
