Another interesting photo: Naval? Looks like a Danish war medal and an 1870 camapign medal -but to whom?

Congratulations! Right on about the medals, and infant German Imperial Navy.

He is an OLD dude, but that sort of epaulette crescent indicates some sort of Beamter, maybe a medical officer. Pre-1890, I'd say from the cuffs, which, with the dust mops, show him to be = an "Oberleutnant."

Probably Garrison Administation or some such. (I have M1866 shoulder boards for one of those buried in "Imperial navy officers' insignia" thread in here, back pages)
