    Iron Crosses being made

    I am not a medal guy, nor do I know ifthis picture is well-known or not. I found them in a 1916 German-American newspaper.

        Hi Joe rookery,

        Now thats Hands-ON ! It is always interesting to see these type of craftsman in action w/ their tools. I cannot help but wonder how many EKs they could put out on a good day??? Thankx for sharing!

            It's hard to read the caption, but it looks like the 2nd photo, bottom right, shows a craftsman cutting the die block pattern for the frame.

                These pictures are available in Bowen's book if I remember correctly.

                He's not cutting dies. Dies are much more bulky. The base of his vice is loaded with stamped frame planchets. Most likely he is punching a hole for the scroll saw blade to pass thru to cut out the frame from the rest of the waste.
