Does this one look OK or not ?

I no very little about German items of any sort but I picked this one up recently and wondered if its original or a copy.
There are no makers marks on the back which I can see but the core is magnetic.

    Hi,

It looks OK, but not for WW1 issue.

I'm guessing the size is closer to 44x44 mm?

If so, I'd say it is later Third Reich or early 57er issue, as I've seen that type of hinge/pin/catch on both the above-mentioned periods.

Still quite collectible and it's in decent condition.

        Hi,

Yes, it's OK - for the period of say 1942 through to 1965 or so.

As for ballpark price, anywhere from US$90 to US$150 - depends if you can find a variant collector missing an example from this period.

          Thank you...Most useful information.

Why would it have a 1914 insert if it dates from the mid 40's , is that common ?

Im a little confused by that.

Was probably a private purchase cross, bought by an individual who had earned it during WW1 but needed to replace his original one because iit was lost, damaged etc.

OK...sorry for my ignorance but what is an S&L made cross ?

Does it affect its value ? what should I expect to get for this ?

S&L stands for Steinhauer & Luck. They manufactered crosses.
