    Wilhelm I commemorative

--Here is something I picked up a couple of months ago. The coin is the size of a U.S. nickel. It seems to me to be a modern commemorative because it is pristine (except for a scuff on his nose and chin), the details are immaculate and the figure of the Kaiser has a matte almost frosted finish to it that I've only seen on modern silverwork. The background, which appears dark, is actually bright silver.
--I was just wondering if anyone has seen something like it or it's maker mark which resembles a cross between a half-moon and the letter 'G'.

Hmmm. Bill--the proof finish doesn't bother me--I've got a 1913 Bavarian (unspecified) Army Corps maneuvers commemorative medal made out of mere aluminum with the same sort of minty-fresh frosted proof and polished finish. What troubles me with your medallion is that "999" proof--I think I'd agree with you that it must be modern, for the bullion market, since I've never seen anything old made to that fineness...
