German WWI field glasses ( binocular ) question ???

    Hello,

I know, this is probably not the apprpriate place to ask, but i have just found this and i have few questions regarding this leather case.

I have found a Black leather case for a German Binocular period WWI , im trying to figure the stampings out from this one :

On the top lid is the following stamp :
R.R. 4 18 ( in smaller lettering )=> is this a unit stamp or such and can you explain it ?

The inner rim is stamped with the famous " Carl Zeiss- Jena " .

Any help regarding this one is much appreciated .

R.R. 4 is Reserve Infantrie Regiment Nr.4. 18 is the number of the glasses themselves. Carl Zeiss was, and as far as I know still is, one of the best German optics manufacturers.

      Hello Tom,

Thank you for the help , i have found this one on a metaldump here in Belgium (the luck for me is that i know the owner very well ).

I guess it stayed here after the First Word war to end almost his live in a trash can !!!, im happy i saved it => unfortunatly there are no more binoculars inside.

About the number 18 => i tought i was the number off the production year.

        Hello Again,

Do you know iff these distinct markings are WWI period or could they also be used DURING WWII ???

Looking at the general construction off this one i have my doubts iff it is however WWI => it has a more WWII construction in my eyes ?????

Sorry i cant post pictures => i have no digital camera .

Message for the Imperial forum moderator, can you please switch this post to the uniform section ?

That unit mark would more likely be WW1 period as that is the style that sometimes was used. There were not many items unit marked during WW2. Carl Zeiss made optics in both wars however.

            Hello,

Supposing that this is a WWI unit ( Reserve Regiment 4 ), can somebody give me any details where this unit was stationed during WWI and where did they fight ?
            In Flanders ?
