    What's the missing medal??

My main interest in this was the Red Cross medal, but I'd be interested to hear any ideas on what belongs on the final ribbon (narrow white edge, narrow red, broad white, narrow red, narrow white edge).

My own limited resources have thrown up the following:

Elizabeth medal (Austria) - possible as foreign medal at the end.

Order of the Red Eagle (Prussia) - no, wrong precedence.

Hohenzollern Jubilee Cross, 1901 - Possible???

Hamburg Hanseatic Cross - no, wrong precedence.

    Anyone got any ideas?

I'd also appreciate some information on the Bavarian Ludwigkreuz 1916, just for my own enlightenment.

    Many thanks,

    James

A Allgemeines Ehrenzeichen would make sense. And the position is ok, too. Imperial peacetime awards behind the Red Cross Decoration of the 3. Reich.

Thanks for that. I've looked at my imperial medal ribbons book again. Do you mean the Prussian General Decoration of Honour (1864) and if so, could you show me a picture of one please?

      Regards,

      James

I think that if you will poke gentle at the covered back or try peaking under the front, you will find that it is NOT white, but bleached out pale blue.

It has that "dirty" sort of OFF-white shade that the Hessian General Decoration ribbon gets, fading away to "white."

The same Hessian pale blue with red stripes ribbon was used for the Home Service version of their Military Medical Merit Cross, which would tie in with the noncombatant Hindenburg Cross. that's much taller than the Hessian General Decoration medals though, so would depend on if you have some indication how high up under the ribbon the missing one was originally attached.

A Bavarian Ludwig Cross thread is a good idea. I'll make scans of my blackened bronze 1st type and green enamel painted second type (don't have an all zinc third type) and either start a NEW thread or follow up one of you guy's starting a new thread.

We don't want to jumble specific subjects in one thread.

Thats possible too. Just check the back of your bar for any remains of blue color on that ribbon. A Allgemeines Ehrenzeichen "Für Kriegsverdienst" could be possible too.

I see only white, under the edge and also in between the folds. It also looks as if the medal was hung quite low - note the grubby black ring.
