    Fakes EK 1914

Does it exist many EK 1914 fakes? I have heard there aren't many fakes to this award, but am I wrong?
    Regards,

    Mr D

--Sure there are fakes, but not nearly in the same numbers as the `39's.
--Do you have one that you think might be fake, or are you looking for one and want to know your chances of getting a good piece?

No, I don't have one- just interested. But if I am going to buy one in the future (hopefully) I would be glad to know what the prices for the different EKs from WW1 are?

--The price depends upon the condition, maker, quality, and attachment method used. They can run from $90 to upwards of $200 depending upon these qualities, sorta like grading a diamond.

--WW2 crosses are simply stockier, thicker than 1914's. The WW1 crosses have more slender, tapering arms.
--Detlev Niemann, for one, usually specifies on his site whether they are period or WW2 era issues. He's got one up for around $90, take a look, otherwise check out his friday updates, he usually has one or two.

Yes, the old WWIs are always smaller than the 1939 size. I can send you jpeg attachments of 2nd Classes for comparison of both types of 1914 (my Forum scan space is full and must be purged before new postings).

Also, 1914 EK 1sts are ALMOST always in real silver, whether marked or not, while the WW2 period restrikes almost never are, usually alloy instead. A mark like 800 or 900 or KO or any of the other Imperial makers will indicate pre-Third Reich manufacture. Most, but not all, of the Third Reich ones have an "L" number maker code, because obviously they were not awarded pieces, but instead had to be bought by recipients as duplicates. Many of the Third Reich restrikes were the same size as the WWI issues, but they are lighter and cheaper.
