Work being slow lately, I took some time to paly around with my web page of military collectibles. Take a look and see what you think and please give me some advice as to how to proceed further.
Here is the main page for the German States of World War One. (I called it "before 1918" on the main page, but it really only includes those states in existence during the war, e.g., no Hannover, Nassau, or early permutations of the Saxon Duchies)
Currently, the only sub-pages that work are Anhalt, Baden, Brunswick, Prussia and
Saxony. The content is still somewhat limited, with no pics on the Anhalt page.
I was thinking I should add text descriptions of what various medals were given for, how many awarded, etc., but that could end up being incredibly time consuming. I will also soon run out of alotted space, so I will have to see what deal ATT will give me if I want to upload more images. As with the little flags, I could just link to other sites, but then I have to keep checking that my site and the other site(s) are still functioning.
I will probably combine the 3 Hanseatic Cities, since they didn't have enough decorations to justify separate pages, unless I get enough space from my host to include things like docs, medal bars, and photos of wearers.
One thing about the images is that while it loads fast here at the office with our high speed Internet access, the same is not true at home with my 56k connection. Some of you, like my brother, may be struggling with crappy 28.8 or worse connections.
Right now, the focus of the page, like my collection, is gallantry and combat awards - the things grunts got, not princes, potentates, generals, REMFs and bureaucrats. To this end, Neal O'Connor's books will be helpful if I write up descriptions. Exceptions are Baden, to which I have a family connection, and Prussia, due to its central role in the Empire. I will probably add Prussian campaign medals and crosses (although I may just add a separate page of campaign medals organized by campaign/war rather than state).
Ant thoughts or comments would be appreciated.
