    Krankenpflege Carola-Medaille, Königreich Sachsen

    Dear fellow collectors,

I found the above mentioned medal browsing on the internet. What it impressed me it is the fact that it is on a single mounted bar (my speciality) and that this particular medal, according Nimmergut, quite scarce is, since it was a semi-official medal given mostly to nurses or doctors. The number of awarded medals in gold are extremely low and silber class is also quite rare (few hundreds).

Can anyone say more about this less known WWI medal given for humanitarian help at the front (Medics)?

    Ciao,

    Claudio

Enclosed a picture of the medal. The ribbon is the correct one (I checked it). On the front the light blue stripes turned white by light-fading. On the reverse you can see that the color the narrow stripes is light blue.

          Got just in...

          Dear imperialites,

Herewith I am enclosing my scan of the Carola medal in silver. As you can see the blue part of the ribbon turned out white (fading due to light exposure). My brother is asking if you would consider a restauration: first of all clean the silver medal and afterwards try to put the "fresher" part of the ribbon on the front... It wouldn't be too much difficult. I would let it like it is, but my brother is a kind of perfectionist.

What would you recommend him to do?

          Ciao,

          Claudio

            Nooooo !

I would recommend he doesn't touch it ! It's been OK for the past 100 years or so, acquiring a fine patina of age, so why mess with it.

Please, please leave it alone! Do not strip the history away from this beauty and turn in into trash.

              Please.

                    Hi John,

You have a beautiful bronze Carola-Medal... I have seen a couple for sale, mostly on auction houses...

Here I am showing you a Carola-Medaille in silver taken from the online catalogue of Hermann Historica. The description says that there were only 302 have been awarded. Interesting...

Anyway this very medal wasn't sold. The starting price was Eur 200.-.

They also had in the same cataloge a Bronze Carola-Medaille with "Eichenblattspange 1914-16", which has to be rather rarer, but unfortunately I don't have the numbers... look the high polished highlights of the oakleave.... beautiful!

I particularly like the deep brown "chocolate" colour of the bronze medal... very nice!

Starting price Eur 300.-.... apparently it wasn't sold!

                      Ciao,

                      Claudio

Hi Claudio, one problem with the Carola medal w/ Oak Spange 1914-16 is that it is mounted incorrectly, The Oak Spange was for women which would have been on a bow ribbon. Perhaps that may have affected it not selling.
