    Hi Guys,
I have an Observors Badge and several EKs hallmarked with a tiny SQUARE! Who is that maker?

    Jody,
I give up. Who's the maker? I ask because I figure you know.

            Sorry Jody,
I figured you were quizzing us. I haven't seen the mark in question.

              Hi Jody,

I have this stamped square on the pin of an EK1. From memory (if I ever get home I'll check and let you know if I'm incorrect) the mark is on the end of the pin, in-line with the catch. I always thought it might have been put there to make sure the hinge/pin catch assembly was correctly assembled. I never thought of it as a maker's mark as such. Where are the marks located on your badges Jody?

              Regards
              Mike K

                Hi Mark,
I have the square mark on the center of an EK pin. I have it again on the ring of a 2nd class EK. It is definately a hallmark.

Here is a photoofmy Observors badge. You can see the hallmark at the top.
                Regards,
                Jody

                  Hey guys,
I just picked up an EK1 with a square directly in the center ofthe reverse of the cross. I have 50+ different examples of this award and I must say that this example can hold it's own in the "top ten" in my collection. While lightly vaulted, it looks to be of 900 or higher silver content and construction is superb. The only clue I have is that it came from Idar-Oberstein, which is as we all know a jeweler's mecca. The degree of definition on the obverse is extremely fine. The '1914' is a bit bigger than most crosses and placed lower than most. Any new insights on this maker?

I wanted to bring this topic to the top again. Has anyone besides Eric come up with clues on this elusive maker with the empty square?

                      Hi Billy!
Here are the pics as promised. This is actually my second and most recently obtained example of this maker. It is a worn example. The other one is in better shape but this one was handier. Anyways you'll get the idea. Hope this helps ya!
                      Good luck...

                        Hey Eric,
Thanks muchfor the picture. That's the mark I've been wondering about and wanting. I've already found one, and hopefully it'll be on it's way to me from the Fatherland soon. I'll try to post a pic when I get it.
