    EK1 1914 with screwback

Does anyone have this type of EK1 1914 with two screws in his collection? It is vaulted with an "800" silver mark. Would be great to compare.

    Cheers, Frank

I have one like that, but it has a round backing plate (of greater diameter than the EK) and the posts are closer to the ends of the arms. It has the sloppiest soldering job I've ever seen. Sorry I can't get images up. (I'm working on it!)

      Hi Frank!
I don't have much time but I'd just like to pop in this reverse pic of two double screwbacks that I have on hand. Hope this helps!

p.s I can't say that I approve of the brass posts on your example.

Here's a link to mine. It might take a few minutes to down load the pics, so be patient.

Thank you all for your input.

Eric, this EK1 came from a very good source into my collection (from a relative who collected them in the 30ies and 40ies). Among those awards he gave me was also my "weird" China-Denkmünze shown in this forum section and my Prussian Fliegerschützenabzeichen, also shown here. I have every reason to believe that this is an original, at least this EK1 was not made after the 30ies or 40ies, I even believe it to be contemporary WWI. I noticed that all your examples have silver screws, mine has bronze ones.

            Hi,

One thing about these styles of screwback that has always intrigued me - they must have been painful to wear with the posts sticking straight into the chest! Does anyone know if they wore some sort of padding behind the posts on these types of cross? Or did they sort of adjust the depth using the backplate as on Eric's right hand example?

            Regards

              Hi Mike,

If you realize how many layers of thick uniform cloth these screws had to pass (cloth layer of tunic, cloth layer of breast pocket, extra layer of cloth running vertically in the middle of the breast pocket) there is not much screw left after applying the nuts. Even if, a good German is not supposed to feel any pain, didn´t you know that?

I have one which has magnetic posts. The nuts are the serrated type (ie. not hex), and made of brass.

                  Hi Munich,
I have several dual posted Imperial EKs. Several years ago I sold to Seba a beautiful double posted screwback. You may want to e-mail him for pics.
                  Regards,
                  Jody
