    Imperial German Aeroplane Fabric

I am looking for a small piece of material from a German plane to display with my Observer's badge. What should I expect to pay for a piece from a trusted source, with documentation? Thanks in advance.

It depends on what you are looking for. A complete Iron Cross or balkan cross, several thousand dollars. Just a little snippet? Best bet would be one of the framed prints that the Smithsonian sold that had a small piece of fabric from the plane in the print. These were sold by them many years ago to raise money for the resoration of the planes. I see them occasionally on ebay for reasonable prices (under $100). It is already displayed well, and it is documented exactly which plane it came from and comes from the Smithsonian. Real, documented and from a trusted source. Something in between with some size to it, whatever the market will bear. Just be careful and make sure it is real, 95% of what you will see for sale will be fake.

Thank you for the help Dan. As much as I would like to have a large piece, a snippet or swatch will have to do. I didn't know that the Smithsonian offered such pieces; that sounds like the way to go. Thanks again.
