    I can't find my book. Who made a model 1917 marked W66?

    Isn't that the size? You had different sizes of German steel helmets, so I guess this had to be marked somewhere...

      Yeah, the 66 is the size, but W should be the maker. I think.

        Steel helmet manufacturer

        Hi Terry, The "W" stamped inside your steel helmet represents the firm of Hermann Weissenberger & Co, who were based in Stuttgart-Cannstadt. The new edition of Ludwig Baer's "History of the German Steel Helmet" lists many of the known makers of the WWI helmet, but a visit to the www.nomanslandmilitaria.com website may prove useful. There's a link on this site to a site devoted to German helmets which includes a table of manufacturers for the M1916 helmet and it's variants. I hope this is some help, regards, Paul.

          Hi Paul,
          Thanks much, that site is great. I had Baer's book however it was destroted in my house fire and I have not yet replaced it. I am going to get a new edition one asap.
