    Fun Medal Quiz #1

    Ok kiddies!
Now this medal was not issued by the Imperial Germans. It was, however, struck expressly for Germans and given ONLY to Germans. Anyone know what this is? It's a rare one...

Is it issued by Greece--Commemorative Cross for Bavarian Volunteeres or the Commemorative Cross for Bavarian Auxiliary Corps--1833? Mike

          BINGO!

I've gotta dig up a harder one next time. You are correct! Now which one is it? The former or the latter?

Actually, it's the Auxiliary Cross. You still get a big thumbs up for being a sharp guy and having good reference books. I guess this illustrates just how important a good reference library is to us collectors. A good rule of thumb for people just getting into collecting a certain field is to take about 30% of what you figure to spend in a year (as long as you are not Daddy Warbucks, Bill Gates, or a Hollywood Movie Star) and sink that money into some really good books. That initial investment will be returned tenfold over the years.

                Hi Eric,

Nice one. I could almost figure it out just by reading the Greek letters on there although this is not my field of . What I am missing out is the explanation of BASILEUS (a greek name) on the reverse. Do you have a complete translation/meaning of the text? Was Basileus a Greek king?

                Cheers, Munich
                Cheers, Frank
