1914 EK1 makers mark

Just picked up a 1914 EK1 with a mark I've never seen. The mark is simply the outline of a very small hollow square box, and is ona narrow flat straight pin. Anyone seen this mark before and if so, who is it? The cross has slightly rounded points on the arms, almost like a Rothe.

I have the same mark on an EKII. As far as maker, your guess is as good as mine, though.
