One thing, though (minor one at that): isn't the Hesse-Darmstadt medal on backwards? I always thought that the cypher side was supposed to be the front of the medal.

Dave: that's the first gold-centers Weiss I've seen in ages: is it better made than their later gilt ones? Looking at the edges of any late war Weiss MVO, there are always rough file marks on the edges of the arms and "dotting" detail on the flames which have always led me to suspect that they were CAST and hand finished, rather than die-struck. How about yours? Rick
