Interesting medal bar

I "borrowed" this image from Andreas Schulze Ising's web page; I hope he doesn't mind. This medal bar, which belonged to Vice Admiral Max Looff, has an interesting combination of awards.

The one that stuck out for me was the Prussian Crown Order 4th Class on the ribbon of the Life Saving Medal (Kronenorden 4. Kl. am Bande der Rettungsmedaille). Among the many German "am Band" combinations, this one stands out. How would one indicate that on the ribbon bar? Miniature crown?

Another oddity that Markus Bodeux, the author of an article on the web site, notes is that the China Medal has one bar, "PEITANG=FORTS", for an action where there was no naval participation, and another, "OSTASIEN 1900/01 ", which is for the Red Cross Medal.

He has a great website, with great articles.

I absolutely love this medal bar--it is the Poster Bar for "Bad" GOOD bars! As Dave has mentioned, MAJOR, major errors. The mounting order is atrocious, the Red Cross bar on the China Medal is outrageous...and also on the site is a Wehrmacht be-uniformed Looff, proudly wearing this "what ISN'T wrong with it?" bar!!!!

No devices were authorized to differentiate which of multiple awards were worn on the Lifesaving Medal ribbon for subsequent acts.

There was at least one naval officer holder who got the Red Eagle Order 4th, Crown Order 4th, and LSM--so three of those ribbons worn side by side!

Enlisted men and the equivalent got the Prussian General Decoration Medal in Silver as a second Lifesaving award. Don't know if anyone of that category ever got a third award.

For a civil valor medal of such rarity, the puny American nickel sized medal is quite underwhelming!

By 1935 regulations, Loof's bar (sans the weird REd Cross bar!) should have been worn in this order: 1,2,4,5,3,6,7,9,8,10. That's three out of 10 in the right place!

    "Seeing is believing!"

Frank, because I am lazy, I have his English version programmed as a "Favorite" site. He also has it in German:

Here is another borrowed image, from a very interesting article on the typology of the Prussian Order of the Red Eagle 3rd Class. The Red Eagle Order had the most variants of any German order, and this article (here in German and in English) is a great illustration of the variety.

This one, awarded once, seems to have the most dohickeys a Red Eagle 3rd could get, the Order of the Red Eagle 3rd Class with Crown, Swords, Swords on Ring, Bow and St. John Cross (3.Klasse mit Krone, Schwertern, Schwertern am Ring, Schleife und Johanniterkreuz):

Somehow I don't think I'll ever see the real deal.

          Dave

            Correction

You cought me there. This combination does not exist. The one supposed to be published is:

...the Red Eagle Order 3rd class with swords and swords on the ring with St.John's cross on the white ribbon.

this one was awarded to theodor Graf zu Stolberg-Wernigerode, Major a.D.

            Sorry for this...
