        That's a great set. I don't blame you for being proud of it. The junior officer assesment is right as well, since there is a post 1917 Karl bravery medal awarded to enlisted personnel. Probably got it as a Fahnrich or possibly a NCO who later got a reserve commision.

          Geez Louise is that a sweet bar! I'd like to fondle that just for a minute or two.... (is that wrong???)

          What makes that an "officer's" bar? It must be the enamelled Austrian medal, correct? What's it signify?

            The Cross for Military Merit is a officers only award. He most likely got it in 1918 after he was commisioned. He also had a nice set of awards for a NCO/ enlisted man.
