    1870 Ek2

Kinda of a silly question, but...

Why would the frame of an EK be so damaged? I realize that it's probably from wear and tear as the EK is actually part of a medalbar (this guy probably wore this around quite a bit). But, what would the guy have been doing over the years to subject his medal to such damage?

And for the record, although the rest of the medals on the bar show some wear and tear, they are not as worn as the EK. It makes me think that he had this EK on a different medal bar until the end of the century when he had it remounted to include his newer medals, such as the Centennial medal.

Any help and/or insights is greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Brian

          Excellent bar with pre-1900 awards.

But why there is no 25 years oakleafes on the EK2?

Where did you find this bar?

--Looks like it may have been worn as a single right after the war as it was probably the first award on this bar that he received. Those dings certainly would have appeared on the rest of the awards if they were alongside the EK - especially on the enamelwork on the Red Eagle.
