I read in a thread about these and wanted to show mine. I believe George showed one a little different from this, but I'm not sure. What I am talking about is the "W" on the obverse. It has thinner arms on the W than on all my other 1914's. Has anyone else noticed this on their Fr.'s? If anyone is interested, my grandfather was awarded this particular cross, according to his militair-pass, on 11/16/1916, at the Schlacht am Roten-Turm Passe. Thanks, guys! I have a few of his things, incl. pics of him wearing it which I will post in the collection part of the forums in the near future.

Hi,
"Fr." used (at least) two core types. Look at the obverse crowns. In this thread there are two of the "puffy" crown type (rounded shoulders) and one of the more angular shouldered type. Nothing wrong with any of them imo.
