    Rare Anhalt-Koethen Eiserne Kriegsdenkmuenze 1814-1815

    Hello fellows,

in an old box with some 1870/71 badges I found this medal from 1814-1815.

I found out that this is the "Eiserne Kriegsdenkmuenze 1814-1815" from Anhalt-Koethen.

Can anybody give me some informations about it?
I know that they were not awarded very often.

    Best wishes

    Joerg

Est. 1819 by Duke Ferdinand Friedrich as a Campaign Medal.for all who served in the Anhalt-Kothen Army. There were 7 variations: 1813; 1814; 1813,1814; 1815; 1813,1815; 1814,1815; 1813,1814,1815. All but the '13,'15 and the '13.'14.'15 are very rare. Since there were only 2 Infantry Companies and the Reserve I imagine even the "common" ones are thin on the ground.

            Köthen or Bernburg?

            Gentlemen,

With all due respect to the information posted so far on this medal, I am getting a different reading. Referring to Dr. Scharfenberg’s work “Die Orden und Ehrenzeichen der Anhaltischen Staaten”, I would be inclined to identify this medal as being from Anhalt-Bernburg, not Anhalt-Köthen. The obverse cypher “AFC” stands for Duke Alexius Friedrich Christian of Anhalt-Bernburg who authorized the medal on 28 January 1817. The reverses also have a slightly different format.

Shown below is what I understand to be the Anhalt-Köthen decoration with the cypher “L” of Duke Ludwig. I don’t want to muddy the water; but I thought that I should mention this possible disparity.

            Best wishes,

                  An additional note.

In reality, my example is of the blackened Iron like the originally posted piece. I lightened it up a bit with photoshop to show the detail better.

                    Hello Wild Card,

you're absolutly right! It was my mistake.

                    Thanks for adjustment

                    Best wishes
